Is an Aerosol Right for Your Repair?

Best suited to larger areas

Choose the aerosol when the damaged area needs wider, even coverage rather than spot application. It is the best option for panel sections, bumper corners, replacement parts and larger scuffed areas.

Good uses

  • Bumpers and bumper corners
  • Wings, doors and body panels
  • Mirror covers and trim
  • Larger scratches or scuffs
  • Replacement panels and parts

Choose a smaller applicator for

  • Single stone chips
  • Fine isolated scratches
  • Tiny marks requiring pinpoint control
  • Repairs where overspray must be avoided

When Do You Need Primer or Lacquer?

Car paint preparation and primer

Primer

Primer is recommended where sanding has exposed bare metal or plastic, where corrosion has been removed, or where the surface needs building and sealing before colour application. It is not normally required over sound, properly prepared original paint.

Automotive clear lacquer finish

Clear Lacquer

Clear lacquer protects the colour coat and provides the final gloss. It is particularly important for metallic, pearl and many modern basecoat colours. Apply it only after the colour coat has flashed off according to the application guide.

Application guide

How to Apply the Aerosol

Prepare car repair surface1

Clean and Prepare

Wash the area, remove wax and grease, then sand the damaged surface until it is smooth and stable.

Apply automotive primer2

Prime Where Required

Apply primer in light coats when bare metal or plastic is exposed. Allow it to dry and sand smooth if needed.

Spray colour matched car paint3

Apply the Colour

Shake thoroughly and spray several light, even coats from approximately 20–30cm away. Build coverage gradually.

Finished automotive paint repair4

Lacquer and Cure

Apply clear lacquer where required, then leave the repair in a clean, dry area until properly cured.

Important: Temperature, humidity, preparation and coat thickness affect drying and finish quality. Always test the spray pattern and colour on a separate surface before applying it to the vehicle.

Helpful answers

Aerosol Frequently Asked Questions

How do you identify my vehicle colour?

We use the registration entered before reaching the product page to identify the vehicle and check its manufacturer paint information. Where additional information is required, our team can verify the VIN or contact you before mixing.

Will one 400ml aerosol cover a complete panel?

Coverage depends on colour, surface, preparation, number of coats and panel size. A 400ml aerosol is intended for larger repairs, but full-panel work can require more than one can, particularly with low-opacity colours.

Do I need clear lacquer?

Metallic, pearl and many modern basecoat colours require clear lacquer for protection and gloss. Solid colours can also require lacquer depending on the paint system supplied.

Do I need primer?

Use primer when the repair exposes bare metal or plastic, after rust removal, or when the surface needs sealing and building before colour. Sound original paint generally only needs correct cleaning and preparation.

Can the aerosol be used on plastic bumpers?

Yes, provided the plastic is correctly cleaned, sanded and primed with a suitable plastic-compatible preparation system where required.

How many coats should I apply?

Apply multiple light coats rather than one heavy coat. The exact number varies by colour and coverage. Allow each coat to flash off before applying the next.

Can I return colour-matched paint?

Colour-matched paint is made specifically for the submitted vehicle details. Please review the store returns policy for made-to-order products and contact us immediately if the supplied details appear incorrect.
